Is your doctor ACEs informed? Graduate students at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health created this fact sheet in collaboration with The Crow HEAL Project. We’re excited to share this material with our healthcare providers and we aim to be at the forefront of championing an ACEs and Trauma-Informed healthcare system. ACEs Science is a game changer! But why is it that many of our healthcare providers never heard of ACEs? ACEs is linked to at least 9/10 of the leading causes of death in the United States, but our doctors are not mandated to screen for, prevent and treat it. Physicians screening their patients for ACEs aim to identify the harm and intervene before it's too late. The largest screening initiative of its kind, launched in January of 2020, is led by California's first-ever surgeon general, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris.California is leading by example! Our goal is to bring NY up to speed and go worldwide with our mission to increase awareness, screenings, and prevention of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). ✨#knowyouracescore #educateyourdoctor#crownheights #crownheightsbrooklyn #crowhill #brooklyn #nyc #makeamericatraumainformed #traumainformed #traumainformedcommunity #thecrowhealproject #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthwarrior #mentalhealthcommunity #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #foryourpage #explorepage #explore #explorepage#exploremore #like #follow

#diversityinhealthcare is needed but so is #diversityeducationinourschoolsystems'Physicians take an oath to “do no harm.” The cessation of prevailing admissions policies may further harm members of society who have long experienced injustices."I pulled this quote out of this article about the Supreme Court's decision on Race-based admissions. While many may think this is only an academic issue, some of us know that it is a major healthcare concern. This will not help or decrease the issue of Healthcare Disparities or inequities that we see in this country. This is an excellent article that speaks to that subject. Sometimes when I bring this up, I get the usual looks but I am good with that because it's America and we all have kids and a future.Another quote "With the Supreme Court’s elimination of the use of race asa factor in admissions, diversity in medical schools, and the medical profession is likely to decline health care disparities will persist, and efforts to advance health equity will suffer."As a Healthcare Professional, when I heard that ruling my first thought was how much worse can it get, forgetting the personal feelings. Lately, I personally have been trying to put the frustration and yes anger of this ruling away but I must admit it has been difficult because it feels personal.Amazing Grace Then a couple of weeks ago a pastor heard said this: He said that when you play the hymn with only the white keys, then you get grace but you cannot play the hymn without the black keys because then that is when you get Amazing Grace. Black does not have to mean only the Black race. He then brought up MLK's "I Have a Dream Speech" and some of my frustration went to hope. (TUCC-08/13/23-Rev.Otis Moss) You may have to research the history of the hymn Amazing Grace to truly understand why both keys are required. Healthcare should be considered sacred ground.#patientadvocacy #stopracialdisparities#amazinggrace After you read the academic journal. Think about The Amazing Grace we have in our world. #patientsfirst

Created in partnership with Janssen in response to health inequities faced by patients of color with psoriatic disease, the Patient Navigator Program gives students hands-on experience with at-risk patients, allowing them to further develop their culturally competent care skills to be better educated and more inclusive physicians in the future.
